Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the St. Jude Heart of Fashion, taking place on March 14, 2018 at Saks Fifth Avenue, Chevy Chase, Maryland. I am honored to serve as a committee member, and proud to say that I have been a part of The Heart of Fashion since 2016. Since its inception in 2010, we have raised over $650,000 for St. Jude!
The event features a full runway presentation and reception hosting 200+ of DC's most fashionable and philanthropic residents. This year, we are excited to introduce a new aspect to The Heart of Fashion - personal fundraising pages like this one, which will allow each committee member the opportunity to fundraise prior to the main event!
My goal is to fundraise $5,500 pre-Heart of Fashion event, which can be achieved done via your donation today by clicking on the red "Donate Now" box above this text field.
As a breast cancer survivor, I experienced what it is to fight for my life. (Through my involvement in the fight against cancer) Since my personal life altering experience, I’ve had the opportunity to meet children as young as 3 years of age fighting to beat cancer. My daughter, My’a , had her first job working at a summer camp with children battling cancer from the age of 3 to 16, this past summer. The young campers were children in treatment or in remission. I’ve personally met some of the parents and learned of their children’s battle. One 3 year old in particular, Michael (and there were so many other amazing children) had fought for 2 years, and a week before camp ended, Michael was cleared of cancer. St Jude Research Hospital has helped increase the rate of survival to 94%, giving many children families the hope of survival.
I would love to share with you a few amazing facts about St.Jude:
•St. Jude has a daily operating cost of $2.4 million.
•Families never receive a bill from St. Jude. Housing, food, treatment and traveled are all covered because all a family should have to worry about is helping their child live.
•Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% when the hospital opened in1962 to more than 80% today. In addition, St. Jude has achieved a 94% survival rate for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), up from 4% in 1962.
•St. Jude treats children from all 50 states and worldwide, seeing approximately 8,500 patients each year.
•St. Jude shares their protocols freely, providing consultations and collaborating with doctors and scientists worldwide, which means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands of children.
•St. Jude follows up on patients for 10 years or more after active treatment ends as part of The St. Jude LIFE & After Completion of Therapy Clinic, which is the largest long-term follow-up clinic for childhood cancer patients in the U.S. Since the majority of St. Jude's funding comes from generous donors like you, your support can make such a difference in helping to ensure St. Jude can continue to make life-changing breakthroughs in pediatric cancer. As Founder Danny
Thomas said, "no child should die in the dawn of life." Together with your support, we can help ensure that St. Jude can continue its mission to finding a cure and saving 100% of children diagnosed with cancer.
I would love to see you at the main event in March!
