Hi Friends and Family,
I will be once again dedicating the weekend of August 4th and 5th to participate in the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Chicago to Peoria Run to raise money and awareness for the hospital. Participants in the 2 day, team relay event have each pledged to raise $1,500 in order to be able to participate. This is my 4th year doing this run. In my first 3 years of this run, you have been a strong source of support, which motivated me to run 129.62 miles.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is the only hospital dedicated to treating and researching childhood cancers and life-threatening disease, which does so without asking the family to pay for any treatment protocols, hospital stays, or other related expenses. St. Jude provides travel, housing, and food for the family while the child is at the facility. St. Jude shares all of its research with the medical community worldwide, so that breakthroughs benefit not just the children at St. Jude, but children all around the world. Since St. Jude started its mission that "no child should die in the dawn of life" of its founder Danny Thomas, the survival rate of one of the most common forms of childhood cancer has gone from 10% to 90%. This is what St. Jude would like to see true for all forms of childhood cancer or life-threatening illness.
I will be part of a team that is raising money to support the hospital, which operates solely on the generosity of individual donors. There are typically 18 teams of 8-12 people who participate in the event. At least one member from each team will be running each "leg" of the 160-mile journey. They will start running Friday morning at 9:00am and run continuously until they arrive in Peoria Saturday afternoon.
Your donation, in any amount, is greatly appreciated. Please make checks payable to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and rest comfortably that your donation is going directly to the hospital, not an event-marketing agency or anyone else. Cash donations are appreciated as well, and will also go directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Thank you for your support of the children at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the hospital's continuing mission to find cures and save lives. It is my sincere desire to participate for a second year in hopes that fewer and fewer children will find it necessary to rely upon the generosity of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. For those children, you are the real hero. I will just be sweating a little extra, and drinking too much Gatorade.
