St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend

Anna's Flying Pigs

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in children under the age of 15 in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimates that 10,270 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed this year in children alone, and of that number about 1,190 will not survive.

In 2003 that seemingly small percentage became a reality in our lives when our daughter Annas was just 3 years old and diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. When the doctors at our local hospital had done all that they could for her, Brian and I brought Anna to St. Jude's in Memphis Tennessee to participate in a clinical trial. From the moment we stepped onto their campus the staff took care of not only Anna but our entire family. From the compassionate care that Anna received, to a family counselor, and even a place to stay, St. Jude's was always there to do whatever they could to help us. Our Anna did not survive her cancer and passed away at just 4 years old but from our time at the hospital we learned how dedicated St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was to ending this disease and making the fight easier for the children and their families. St. Jude is not only a leader in cancer research but they also take care of all expenses for their patients while undergoing treatment.

Brian and I have made it our mission to do whatever we can to help another child and another family in their own struggle and once again our family and friends have rallied around us to help as we raise money for such an outstanding cause. Team members from Anna's Flying Pigs will be running or walking in an event on December 1st in Memphis but all we are asking of you is a donation to support the hospital in their tremendous efforts to erase childhood cancer. Your donation today can provide so much for another child fighting cancer and for the future of our children.

  • Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
  • Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90%, and they won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
