I signed up for my first marathon as a St. Jude Hero because I knew it would be much more meaningful and motivating to be running for children who are battling cancer. Although the term "St. Jude Hero" is used to describe those who fundraise to ensure no family worries about the costs of treatment, I think the children at St. Jude are the real heroes. They exhibit true strength and courage in their fight for life, and it is incredibly admirable that they usually persevere with a smile.
I began my training with the hope of being as tough as the children of St. Jude. Unfortunately, I am not. I sustained a training related injury that I initially tried to push through, but ultimately accepted it would inhibit me from participating on race day. However, my battle to recovery is nothing compared to what these children are going through, so it is important to me that we do as much as possible to help them and their families. I have set a goal of raising $500 by June 1st, but I would love to exceed that. Please help me reach my goal!!
