This summer, I signed up to run my second half marathon. I was hesitant and nervous to sign up originally, knowing how hard of a task it is to run 13.1 miles, but immediately changed my mind when I found out the charity this marathon would be supporting. I had the option to just pay the regular fee and run, but I decided to help raise money for St. Jude's Hospital instead.
If you aren't familiar with this hospital, they specialize in treating children with cancer, and for those of you who know my family, you know this subject hits incredibly close to home! Last year, my now 15 year old cousin Lindsay, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer (Ewing's Sarcoma). She has since gone through her first round of chemo, followed by surgery to remove the tumor and replace her right hip bone, and she is currently starting her second round of chemo to beat this beast! She is doing well, and has shown incredible strength through this whole journey, and has inspired me to run this marathon in honor of her.
I will be running the half marathon in June down here in San Diego, and have the next 6 months to raise at least $500. I am believing that this will be an easy goal to reach & hope to surpass this amount with the help of all of you! Everyday there are hundreds of families facing the same battle and I hope to play a minor role of helping support this hospital who treats these beautiful children. With your donation, you will be helping cover costs of housing, treatments, and travel costs for families involved with the hospital. Thank you in advance for any support/donation you are able to give!
If you would like to make a donation, you are able to donate through the website here, or through mail. If you decide to mail a donation, select the "Donate Now" button and on the bottom left there is a button that says "Donate by mail," select that and you will print out the form and send that in along with your donation to: St. Jude Heroes P.O. Box 2081 Memphis, TN 38101. Any checks can be made out to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
I hope you will help me support and honor the journey that my cousin has taken thus far, as well as any child who has ever been diagnosed with cancer; Again thank you so much to each of you who choose to donate, these kids deserve the world! Now I am off to start training, because Lord know 13.1 miles of running will not come naturally!
