Hello, and thanks for checking out my page!
In just a few weeks, I'll be running what I think is somewhere between my 12th and 15th 5K...but this one is a little different. First and foremost, it's at what we call the happiest place on earth--Disney World!!! The kids were surprised and excited to find out about our trip, and the calendar hangs on our refrigerator as we count down the days.
So I usually say that I run for the cool t-shirts, the goodie bags, the chocolate or other treats at the end...but this time, I'm choosing to run for more than myself, for more than what I get out of it. I'm using my (very slow-paced) running to help save kids' lives by fundraising for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I'm running for kids who might be too sick to run today, but who could one day be running alongside me because the money I raised helped find a cure for childhood cancer.
A few facts about St. Jude:
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food -- because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
At this time of year, we often post on social media the things that we're grateful for...and without fail, almost without thinking, I always include the health and happiness of my children. And every once in a while it hits me how much that really means, and how it should never be taken for granted.
So in the middle of spending some family time at one of our favorite places, I'm very excited to take the time to run for the children and the families who cannot.
Please donate and help me reach my goal--the countdown is on!
