Thanks so much for visiting my fundraising page. My name is Melissa - I'm a 24-year-old student affairs professional training for my first half marathon! I'm using my running to fundraise for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as I train. St. Jude's has always been a priority of support for my family's household and I'm motivated and honored to dedicate this race to the fundraising efforts of this incredible organization. Here's some important information about St. Jude's:
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food -- because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
My fundraising goal is to raise $1,000 by April 2018. A half marathon is 13.1 miles. That's about $76.34 per mile. While this is a small dent in what a child's medical care costs add up to during prolonged treatment, my efforts are joined with thousands of people across the country, running the same race for the same reasons.
So, as I push myself to run 13.1 miles in a single day at a continuous pace (Lord give me strength), I hope to cross the finish line knowing that the mileage literally brought our world one small step closer to healing, happiness, and a stronger, brighter future.
As always, my prayers and thanksgivings are with you all! Thank you for donating and thank you for your encouragement!
