Hi there, and thanks for stopping by to see what this is all about! :-)
Most of you who know me, know I am not a runner. But when a great friend and fellow Disney lover suggested we do the Disney World Princess Half Marathon together, I just couldn't refuse! Once we began looking into registering, we discovered that there were opportunities to run for a charity of our choosing. What a great idea! After checking out all the options, we decided to support St. Jude Children's Research hospital, and here's why:
- Extensive Research- Directed at understanding the molecular, genetic and chemical bases of catastrophic diseases in children; identifying cures for such diseases; and promoting their prevention. Research is focused specifically on cancers, some acquired and inherited immunodeficiencies, sickle cell disease, infectious diseases and genetic disorders.
- What they provide-Families will never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food -- because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Results!-Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
As a new mother myself, I can't begin to imagine what these families are going through. Having the chance to run through the happiest place on earth while also raising money for an incredible charity? Double win!! As St. Judes puts it, " You are choosing to run for more than yourself. You are running for kids who might be too sick to run today, but who could one day be running alongside you because the money you raised helped find a cure for childhood cancer." How amazing is that, and what a blessing it is to be able to do this!
Please consider a donation (anything at all, no amount is too small)and help me reach my goal!
