Hi My friends! I started running last year to try and get healthier. Last year, to drive my running to the next level, I took inspiration from my daughter, Kate, who had successfully run a half marathon in Little Rock, and I entered the San Diego Rock n Roll half marathon. As I registered, one of the entry options they offered included raising funds for St. Jude's Children's Hospital which is based in Memphis, Tennessee - just up the road from my home state of Arkansas. I knew many families from my home state and even here in California that had had great care at St. Jude's - perfect fit!
It was an awesome experience! I completed the race (under my goal time!) and with the help of some amazing friends and family, was able to raise thousands of dollars for St. Jude's. In choosing to run for more than myself the whole experience was elevated to a challenge that benefits kids with cancer and their families. I'm using my running to help save kids' lives by fundraising for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as I train. I'm running for kids who might be too sick to run today, but who could one day be running alongside me because the money I raised helped find a cure for childhood cancer.
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food -- because all a family should worry about is helping their child li
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
I am getting a later start this year with fund raising but know we can catch up (PS: but I have been training to complete the San Diego Rock N Roll half marathon on June 3, 2018 since March). Please donate and help me reach my goal!
