I'm dedicated to using my running to make an impact. As I train for my race, I'm raising funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
For those of you who don't know, this year I became a member of Team WFRE. The mission of our team is not only fundraising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital but to one day find a cure for all childhood cancers. In December I had the honor of visiting The Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Before leaving for my trip all I could think about was how hard this experience was going to be and what I could do today and everyday to make a difference in every child's life at St. Jude. Visiting the hospital was a heartwarming experience and I've never left somewhere with so much hope and love in my heart. This year I've decided that I want to do more than sit back and encourage others to donate, I myself want to make a difference.
A little background on why apart of me is so attached to St. Jude..
In July of 2015 I lost my best friend to a 7 month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Seeing how hard Kyle had to fight everyday to live made me realize how blessed I am to be living a healthy and worry free life. You never realize all the things you take for granted everyday until you see someone you love slowly fading away. One thing Kyle taught me before receiving his wings was that no matter what battles life throws at you smile big, fight hard, and never lose hope. The day I found out I lost my friend is the day I lost a piece of myself. Because of Kyle, I learned that everyday is not promised and spending time with the ones you love is cherished beyond words.
