My story basically goes like this: My name is Samantha Elliott and I was diagnosed with bone cancer in my right leg. By the time I was diagnosed it had spread to my lungs as well. With the incredible treament opportunities at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, I am alive today. I have had multiple leg surgeries, both for tumor removal and deformity correction. But like I said, I'm still here.
I have signed up to run the half marathon this April in Nashville for St. Jude. I use the term "run" rather loosely. I'm just trying to finish it. I'm fairly certain that it will be both my first and my last half marathon, but I've never felt more ready to challenge and push myself, just to say I could do it. Even if it tears me up, I'm ready. I was recently given a new ankle brace (and a new ankle really ;) ) that lets me run for the first time for as long as I can remember.
The daily reminder that I had cancer is now really subtle. I'm really grateful for that. But I'm still reminded every day by someone else's battle. Other people are still fighting. Other children are still geting diagnosed, treated, and sadly enough, passing away every single day from this monster. I'm doing it for them. Please help me raise this money for those kids. Because that's who I'm running for; I'm running for the kids who can't run for themselves anymore.
Thank you in advance and wish me luck!!
