On September 6, 2015 my whole world changed, as my the 17 month old son, Colton was diagnosed with a High Grade Glioma brain tumor. As a single mom of two, I was scared and confused...How does this happen? This can't be happening?? The reality was, that it was happening and we needed to fix him!! Three days later he was undergoing a craniotomy to remove the tumor from his brain, and that was the start of our crazy journey. Three weeks later, I was notified that he was accepted for a trial at St Jude in Memphis, TN, where we would spend the next 6 months while he was undergoing chemotherapy to get rid of this monster called cancer. I am happy to say that Colton is currently cancer free, thanks to all of the amazing staff, nurses and doctors who made it their mission to save my son's life. Although he is cancer free right now, this fight is far from over!
Fast forward to September 2017, where Colton is currently 19 months cancer free and we will be heading back to St Jude next month for his 20 month scans. At this time we return every 4 months just to make sure everything is status quo, and never once have we had to pay a penny for the medical expenses, travel, housing or food. This will continue for the next 15 years, and all be paid for though donations. I will say we are one of the fortunate ones, and I truly believe we have beat this monster and have no intentions of looking back!. But I will also say, St Jude is my passion and I also will never stop fighting for these kids and against the disease that plagues them.
This is where I ask for your help. On December 2, 2017 I will head back to St Jude to take part in the St Jude Marathon, (although I will only be attempting the 1/2 marathon) Last year I was fortunate enough to partake in this event and complete the 5K with Colton on my shoulders the entire race, just a day after learning he would be 9 months cancer free. Never in my life did I expect that I would be running in such an event to support my son with cancer, but you just never know when it will affect you or someone you know. I am asking all of you, as a St Jude Hero, to consider making a donation to support St Jude Research Hospital's lifesaving mission: Finding cures and saving children, where no family ever receives a bill from St Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food, because as I know all too well, during these trying times, all a family should have to worry about is saving their child's life.
Did you know that the daily operating cost for St Jude is $2.2 million, which is primarily covered solely by individual contributors. This is where you come in....Any donation, no matter what size, will help me to help these kids have a future just like Colton. Please consider visiting my personal donation page and being a part of helping save a child's life because they deserve it!!
