During the first weekend in December, I will run to make an impact for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. As an employee, I am dedicated to the mission each and every day - it is an amazing place with commitment like no other organization with which I have been affiliated. Recently, our CEO spoke to all employees about what we have accomplished in the past year, but more importantly, about what is left to do.
As you may be aware, St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases with the work that Charlie and many, many others are doing here. I am fortunate to see firsthand the science that is being produced and shared in the research community, and with patients and their families. While the cure rate for childhood cancers stands at about 80%, there are still too many kids that don't make it. And, for all kids who undergo treatment, we need to continue to improve and better understand the long-term effects.
Indeed, I have had the pleasure of meeting some of the kids and families impacted by these diseases. These people are truly the heroes - resilient and courageous in the face of the diagnoses and treatments. I run for these kids, for their families - and the dream that someday we don't have to.
Thank you for donating and helping me reach my goal.
