Dear Family and Friends:
Many of you know that I am a runner. I run for fitness, and for stress relief; but I want to do more than run — I want to help run St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. That's why I'm committed to raising funds as a St. Jude Hero. I'm ready to go the distance, but I need your support.
It costs $2 million a day to operate St. Jude. Did you know that 70% of the funds come from the public? That means your donation, no matter what the size, will help! Thanks to donors like you, no family ever receives a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Almost 3 years ago, in December 2013, I had a friend from high school, Megan (Crome) Coleman, who's worst nightmare became reality. Her beautiful, vibrant 15-month old son, Bennett, was diagnosed with a Rhabdoid Tumor (liver cancer). The doctors in his hometown were unsure of how to treat Bennett. Thankfully, St. Jude was able to accept Bennett as a patient and exposed him to treatments that helped give him more time with his family. Unfortunately, cancer is a terrible disease, and his spread quickly to his lungs. He went to heaven on April 28, 2014; but St. Jude was able to give precious time to the Coleman's that they would not have had at other hospitals. Megan, Ben and their family love St. Jude; and are constantly working to raise money to help other families, like them, which is why I want to help their family raise money too. If one of my children needed St. Jude, I would want to be able to have that option; as I'm sure most of you would too.
Last year, I ran the St. Jude Half Marathon for the first time. The experience changed my life, for the better. This hospital is an amazing, world-renowed facility that helps further the treatment of cancer and will hopefully one day find a cure! I will run this race every year because I have seen the amazing patients who are fighting everyday for more memories with their families and friends.
Please consider a donation in Bennett's honor, and know that I will run each step with him (and you all) in my mind and heart.
Thank you for helping me run St. Jude!
