I'm raising funds as a St. Jude Hero to support St. Jude's lifesaving mission of finding cures and saving children. I need your support to help me reach my fundraising goal for the kids of St. Jude.
My niece, Audrey, became a patient there in December 2011. Here is her story, told by her dad, Marshall:
When my wife and I walked onto the St Jude campus for the first time in December 2011 I was a desperate man. You see my oldest daughter Audrey, 6 at the time, had been diagnosed with her second tumor in 3 months. We had very few answers and no plan as to how to proceed with healing her. Our doctors back home had referred us to St. Jude when they realized that her type of tumor had never been seen before in our local hospital.
Although I was excited about the opportunity to consult with some of the world's finest doctors, I was also quite apprehensive. I recalled all of the pictures and stories I had seen about all of the sweet kids already in St. Jude's care. In the back of my mind I expected St Jude to be a difficult place to experience. I couldn't have been more wrong. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is an incredible place that resonates hope in the darkest of circumstances. It represents the incredible possibilities that exist when people come together in an effort to give children their health back, no matter what the diagnosis.
As a result of this effort, and the wonderful staff and supporters of St Jude, Audrey's health is being restored. Her tumor is now barely visible - the result of a groundbreaking drug that leaves her with very few side effects. Furthermore, thanks to their wonderful donors we have never been asked to pay St. Jude anything.
Needless to say our family is overwhelmed with gratitude for what St. Jude has done for us. It is for that reason that I am raising funds on their behalf as I compete in the St Jude Country Music Marathon on April 27. Put simply, I need your help to reach my fundraising goal and support St. Jude's life saving mission of finding cures and saving children.
