I am a St Jude mom and this will be 4th year my family and friends are running the race in Nashville.
My daughter Samantha was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right leg which had spread to her lungs. The doctors at St Jude told us that she had numerous tumors in her lungs and while they could treat her, we could only hope and pray that it would work. Samantha was 8 years old. After a year of chemo they were able to remove the last spot on her lung with surgery, and now, almost 13 years later, she is a junior in college.
The road was difficult and still is. She has had numerous a surgeries to repair her leg, but St Jude with us every step of the way!
St Jude saved Samantha's life and leg! And did not charge us a penny. Not for treatment, not for tests, not for housing, not for food, not for travel, not for the 10 years of follow up care, Not a dime. Ever.
That's how they roll. From the moment Danny Thomas opened the doors of St Jude, no family has had to pay. Everything is covered through donations, because when your child is sick, the onluy thing you should worry about is getting your child taken care of.
The average donation per person is only $30!
Donations also pay for life saving research which is freely shared with health care facilities throughout the world, helping to save the lives of children with cancer everywhere.
I have raised over $45000 for St Jude since my daughter was treated.
I "run" in events as a St Jude hero and spend my free time planning and holding fundraisers.
I want every family touched by childhood cancer to be able to say their child lived!
