Hello Friends and Family,
I'm taking on the challenge again this year to participate in the St. Jude Marathon weekend by running the half marathon.
My decision to do this again, is driven by what a great cause this is to support. There are no words to explain the feeling of running through the campus of the hospital with parents who have lost children standing with signs cheering you on in support and know that your effort is to raise money for an outstanding cause.
Besides supporting St. Jude's, the main reason I do this is to support a dear friend and her family who were helped by St. Jude while their daughter Sophie was battling a rare form of brain cancer known as DIPG. Sophie was diagnosed at the age of 3 and lost her battle only 7.5 months after first being diagnosed. I had the great pleasure to meet Sophie for a few brief moments in her life, but they were enough for me to know what a special girl she was and how much she was loved by her family. Sophie's parents, Marc and Emily, chose to honor Sophie's memory by creating a foundation known as Smiles for Sophie Forever. Part of the mission of The Foundation is to give back to St. Jude. For the past 9 years, they have had a team of runners gather together, to honor Sophie and to raise money for St. Jude. I am very excited about being a part of the team again this year to help raise money for St. Jude and to carry on Sophie's memory.
I have been grateful by the friends, family, and co-workers who have helped me reach my $2500 fundraising goal the last several years. I am hoping this year's fundraising goal of $2500 can help the Smiles for Sophie Team and St. Jude's surpass both of those amounts and further support the hospital with their work at an amount of $1.9M/day.
I really appreciate all the support and thank you in advance.
