Here I go...AGAIN!
I have always waited until September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, to begin my St. Jude fundraising campaign, and I usually have all my thank you notes written and delivered for my Bash & Dash donations, but this summer has been quite different.
Never in a million years would I expect to be serving as a caregiver, instead of training for the 10K.
On July 5, one day after the Bash & Dash, my husband Frank was diagnosed with aggressive Grade 3B, enlarged B cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. After a month in the hospital, Frank is home and gearing up for his second round of chemo. Although I was at the point of "forgetting about the St. Jude Marathon weekend, training, and fundraising," I realized that keeping Frank with a positive attitude meant that I had to have a positive attitude as well. So here I am again, hoping to fulfill my bucket list of completing a 10 K in my 70's. It was on my bucket list as a 70-year-old last year, but a pelvic stress fracture put an end to my St. Jude race last December.
To date, SFSF and its St. Jude Marathon Weekend Teams have raised more than $350,000 for St. Jude. Once again, Team SFSF, with the support of SFSF, continues to fulfill, in part, the mission of Smiles For Sophie Forever --- that of supporting St. Jude, where Sophie was treated in 2007.
Sadly, Sophie lost her battle with DIPG after just seven and a half months; fittingly, SFSF, founded in her memory and honor, continues to fight the battle to find a cure and to help families with children diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer.
As a St. Jude hero, I have committed to raising $2500 before the December 2, 2017, event, and I am asking for your financial support.
Please give if you are able and help to prevent knowing another family faced with the devastation our family experienced with Sophie's fateful battle. It's the very least I can do for my beautiful Sophie Girl. Children are God's most precious gift. Let's help keep them alive.
There is no amount too small, especially when it comes from a big heart!
Thank you for your support!
