Amelia was 8 when we learned she had brain cancer. We also learned that the type of brain cancer she had was considered terminal, however the surgery to remove the tumor was successful, she was full of fire and we tirelessly held onto hope. Sadly, on September 7th, 2016 we found out through a routine MRI that Amelia had tumor progression. New tumors had formed in an area of the brain in which surgery was not an option, the only treatment option for us was a phase 1 clinical trial at St. Jude, so we packed up and went to Memphis. Amelia spent almost a month at St. Jude and during that time there we came in contact with some of the most wonderful people. There is no question, the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Jude love children. They were amazing and the St. Jude campus is beautiful. While at St. Jude we spent a lot of time walking around campus, sometimes picking up trash, sometimes just chatting but always loving to read the bricks that lined our way. They were inspiring and heartfelt. We learned on October 21st, 2016 that the new tumors were not responding to the trial medications so Amelia was taken off the trial and came back to Kansas City on October 22nd. We were so happy to have her home! On October 25th Amelia had a major brain bleed and passed away October 26th. We miss her with every breath.
To honor Amelia, her kindness and help St. Jude offer treatment to children in need I would like to raise funds with the target being to purchase a brick for Amelia. The brick I would like to have dedicated to Amelia is $1500 so once that amount has been raised, I can work with St. Jude to get her brick ordered. This would be an incredible and meaningful memorial to her and any help you could offer in this endeavor would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
