Why I'm fundraising for St. Jude
Thanks to you donors like you, no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago.
Join me! Together we can help St. Jude change the world.
Bonus Backstory
I used to do math contests in grade school, & at least one of them was for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I have always been a big fan of their mission even when my age was single digits, & I have donated annually for several years now.
In terms of the math contests, people would either give flat donations or pledge a certain amount for every correct answer that you got during the math contest. I would like to revisit this, but since I do benchmark workouts monthly, I am doing it in the form of a benchmark workout instead of a math contest.
The Hope Benchmark Workout was a benchmark workout that was designed in the 2010s by CrossFit as part of a benefit to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I think it's only fitting that this fundraiser be based on the same benchmark workout.
Hope
3 Rounds For Total Reps in 17 minutes
1 minute Burpees
1 minute Power Snatches (75/55 lb)
1 minute Box Jumps (24/20 in)
1 minute Thrusters (75/55 lb)
1 minute Chest-to-Bar Pull-Ups
1 minute Rest
For every repetition I do in this workout (whether as Rx (exactly as written) or Scaled), I will pledge $3 per repetition done, with a minimum donation floor of $300 for myself. So if I do only 67 reps, I will donate $300. If I do 110 reps, I will donate $330.
This fundraiser will run in the month of July 2024, & I will do this benchmark workout on July 13, 2024.
Since there isn't an electronic pledging option (as far as I know), the additional time after the date of the workout is for anyone donating that would have done so via pledge format to multiply the number of repetitions I do per amount they would have pledged. (If you want to donate a flat amount, that works too.)
If you wish to do this workout yourself & donate to this fundraiser based on your number of reps, feel free to do so! This fundraiser runs the entire month of July, so you will have plenty of time to do this WOD & donate or pledge donate (or both) as applicable. There are scaling options if you cannot do this workout exactly as written, so feel free to scale to your ability.
